Weser Cycle Path, 1st Stage: From Hann. Münden to Höxter

Hann. Münden → Höxter

Stage 1

From Hann. Münden, you cycle northwards to Hemeln and continue directly along the river via Bursfelde to Oberweser. The main route of the Weser Cycle Path runs along the right bank—mostly directly along the Weser and amidst pristine nature with great views. You pass through the picturesque Lippoldsberg and Bodenfelde. Further north in Wahmbeck, the reaction ferry—operating only with the power of the water—carries you across the river. Afterwards, you reach the Baroque town of Bad Karlshafen, which invites you to pause with historical sights and the "Weser-Therme." Beverungen presents itself as a place with a lively past in a very colorful half-timbered style. In Wehrden, it is worth crossing from the main route of the Weser Cycle Path to the alternative route on the right Weser side by ferry to visit Fürstenberg Castle, which towers fairy-tale-like above the Weser Valley. The stage's destination is the half-timbered town of Höxter with numerous sights.

Weser Cycle Route, 2nd stage: From Höxter to Hamelin

Höxter → Hameln

Stage 2

The town of Höxter combines picturesque half-timbered houses and medieval alleys with a lively city center. A little further north, directly on the route, is the UNESCO World Heritage Site Corvey. Continuing along the Weser brings you to Holzminden, also known as the "City of Scents and Flavors," and to Weser Renaissance castle Bevern. From there, it continues to Polle, where you can change Weser sides with the reaction ferry. Cinderella lives at Everstein Castle. Through the Rühler Schweiz, you reach Bodenwerder, the home of Baron von Münchhausen. Via Daspe, the Weser cycling route leads to the small village of Grohnde. Here it is worth switching Weser sides again with the reaction ferry to take a detour to the magnificent Hämelschenburg. To Emmerthal, it is only a short distance, from where the path leads via Tündern to Hamelin. The historic old town scores with restored half-timbered and Weser Renaissance houses.

Weser Cycle Path, 3rd Stage: From Hameln to Minden

Hameln → Minden

Stage 3

The old town of Hameln with its Weser Renaissance and half-timbered houses in the small, mysterious alleys will impress you. From Fischbecker Straße, the route continues north along the main route to the Fischbeck Foundation in Hessisch Oldendorf. Enchantingly beautiful, one of the oldest women's convents in the region is presented here. The route then continues via Großenwieden to the colorful half-timbered town of Rinteln. Narrow alleys, picturesque corners and entire rows of colorful half-timbered houses can be admired in the former university and fortress town of Rinteln. From Rinteln's city center, the main route of the Weser Cycle Path leads you to the water paradise Doktorsee. From Doktorsee, the main and alternative routes continue north via Vlotho and Bad Oeynhausen to Porta Westfalica. Here, the monumental Kaiser Wilhelm monument towers over the Weser and marks the transition from the Weser Uplands to the North German Plain. The stage destination is reached in Minden.

It then goes past the site of the former Benedictine monastery Schinna, one of the oldest Protestant half-timbered churches in Germany. In Landesbergen, the main route takes you across the Weser bridge into the town center of Landesbergen with the bridal mill. Along the lock canal, it continues past the Landesbergen weir to Estorf. Over the Weser ferry Schweringen-Gandesbergen, the route switches back to the left Weser side and leads over Bücken, Hoya, and Dörverden. In Dörverden, the church and the Holländer windmill gallery attract visitors. Along the left side of the Weser, you cycle on over Magelsen and Oiste to your stage destination, the equestrian town Verden. **Please note**: Due to a construction site, the Weser cycle path is detoured behind Wienbergen to Magelsen and before Dahlhausen. Weser Cycle Route, 6th stage: From Verden to Bremen

Verden → Bremen

Stage 6

From Verden, the cycle path runs past the Langwedel lock canal by the Romanesque St. Sigismund Church in Daverden towards Achim. Just before Achim lies Etelsen, known for its castle. A few kilometers further you reach the Badener Berge in Achim-Baden, from which there is a magnificent view. Your route now leads over the Weser bridge to Thedinghausen. Erbhof Castle in Thedinghausen is an outstanding example of Weser Renaissance in the Middle Weser region.
