European Long-Distance Hiking Trail E8

The European long-distance hiking trail E8, which runs from the North Sea through the Rhine, Main, and Danube regions to the Carpathians, passes through the Bavarian Forest from Regensburg along the “Danube Ridge,” crossing numerous mountains with scenic views (Pilgramsberg, Hirschenstein, Rusel, Brotjacklriegel) and through beautiful landscapes (the Oberbreitenauer Plateau, Lallinger Winkel, and Zentinger Basin) all the way to Saldenburg. There, it enters the wild and romantic Ilz Valley, which it follows all the way to Passau. From Passau, the hike then continues through the charming hilly countryside north of the Danube, crossing the border at Kappel/Oberkappel into Upper Austria.
