Lohmen lies between Pirna and Saxon Switzerland National Park. The main road to the Bastei runs through the village, which is why it is known as the "Gateway to Saxon Switzerland". In the village stands the baroque church from 1789, with 835 seats and an organ by Johann Christian Kayser. A few steps away is the castle, once an estate of the Saxon electors and now used by the municipality.The Bastei lies within the municipality. Its rock ridge drops steeply about 190 metres to the Elbe and opens up a view of the Elbe valley. The sandstone Bastei Bridge from 1851 leads to the remains of Neurathen rock castle, first mentioned in 1289. Climbing peaks such as the 35-metre Schwedenturm rise all around.
The Malerweg (Painters' Way) hiking trail runs from Lohmen through the Uttewalder Grund gorge to Stadt Wehlen. On the way lies the Uttewalde rock gate, a motif of Caspar David Friedrich. West of the village lies the Liebethaler Grund, the valley of the Wesenitz, with the 12.5-metre Richard Wagner monument from 1933.
