Dahme is a Baltic Sea spa resort on the northwestern edge of the Bay of Lübeck, between Grube and Kellenhusen. It was first mentioned in 1299. The village has a sandy beach several kilometres long with a promenade, and its pier reaches 205 metres into the sea.South of the village, the Dahmeshöved lighthouse stands on a rise, a 28.8-metre brick tower from 1878/79. It is open to visitors at times and is also used for civil weddings. On Nysted-Platz by the pier lies the Kleiner Schwede, a 24-tonne boulder that the ice of the last glacial period carried here from central Sweden. Of the Wittenwiewerbarg, a motte castle from the 13th and 14th centuries, a small mound remains.
In the 1960s, the writer Uwe Johnson found inspiration for his novel Anniversaries in a summer house at Dahmeshöved. Almost eight kilometres to the southwest, the village of Cismar has the remains of a Benedictine monastery that existed from 1245 to 1561. Cismar is also home to the Haus der Natur natural history museum.
