Paris
852 places to stay. A night costs from about 58 €.
The Louvre has been a public museum since 1793 and occupies the former residence of the French kings. On the left bank, opposite the Tuileries Garden, the Musée d'Orsay shows its collection in a former railway station built for the 1900 World's Fair. The Musée Marmottan Monet holds the largest collection of works by Claude Monet, including "Impression, Sunrise", the painting that gave Impressionism its name.
The Champs-Élysées run for almost two kilometres to the Arc de Triomphe, which stands over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. To the north, the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur sits on the hill of Montmartre. For a walk, there is the Jardin du Luxembourg by the Senate palace, and Père-Lachaise, the world's first cemetery laid out as a park.
