Juist is one of the East Frisian Islands off the coast of Lower Saxony, about 17 kilometres long and in many places only a few hundred metres wide. There are no cars on the island; horse-drawn carts bring luggage and goods. The Wadden Sea off the island is part of the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.

In the Loog district, the island museum shows the history of the island. The Hammersee lake in the middle of the island was formed by a storm surge in 1932. The Otto Leege trail recalls the naturalist who looked after the neighbouring bird island of Memmert.

In the island village stand the island church, the Catholic church of the Holy Guardian Angels from 1909/10, the water tower and the spa house. The national park house explains the Wadden Sea. In the east, the island ends at the Kalfamer.
